Call for Participants: Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumors
An ESUN Feature
A clinical trial for people with malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST) is being conducted at the National Cancer Institute and is being coordinated by Sarcoma Alliance for Research through Collaboration (SARC). The trial involves combination chemotherapy with doxorubicin/ifosfamide and etopside/ifosfamide. Researchers are hoping to learn whether chemotherapy can help shrink the MPNST in order to make surgical resection more feasible. This study is designed to define the response to treatment with chemotherapy in MPNST and to explore if there is a difference in response between people with MPNST who have or do not have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1).
We are now actively seeking patients who meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Confirmed diagnosis of MPNST in people with or without a diagnosis of NF1
- Never received chemotherapy for the MPNST
- Disease that is measurable on imaging studies such as CT or MRI
- Active and able to perform light physical activity
