Tom Swartz Tom is a native of Long Island, New York. He attended Stony Brook University, where he met his spouse Liddy Shriver, earning a BA in economics. He went on to attend Brooklyn Law School earning a Juris Doctor degree, and became a licensed attorney in New York and New Jersey. Tom applied his legal training as a court attorney for a New York appellate court. Tom and Liddy were married in 1989, and moved to New Jersey, eventually settling into a happy life in Jersey City. Liddy was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in 2002 at the age of 37, after many frustrating years of undiagnosed and misdiagnosed symptoms. While Liddy struggled through treatment, and offered and sought advice through online support groups, Tom offered the best support through doctor’s visits, scans, pharmacy runs, medication schedules, and hospital visits. He has a great appreciation for the challenges of being a primary caregiver of a sarcoma patient. Both before and during treatment, Tom and Liddy shared a love of cycling. And Liddy’s love of cycling became the inspiration of the Team Sarcoma Initiative Bike Tours. Tom has participated in 5 of the 6 annual Team Sarcoma Bike Tours. Tom also contributes material to the ESUN regularly featured columns of Clinical Trial News, Research Corner, Stories of Courage & Hope, and Odds & Ends.
