Sarcoma Centers
Dr. Jean Yves-Blay: I think the major question regarding the managment of patients with sarcoma is that they should be managed by specialized cancer centers, and this is true worldwide. These are rare tumors. For most of them, close to the place where the patient lives, there is no specialized center in sarcoma. Despite that, it's critical that the patient is diagnosed, treated and followed at a sarcoma center.
Why? Because it's a complex treatment; it varies across histiotypes; diagnosis is complex. Molecular diagnosis is not available everywhere, and novel treatments are available only at specialized centers. For this reason, clearly there are benefits of being treated in specialized centers which are undisputed anyplace in the world.
