Tips for the Newly Diagnosed

Dr. Murray Brennan: And what happens when it apears there cannot be another operation, there cannot be more radiation, there is not effective chemotherapy? This is a tragic and difficult time for everybody: the patient, his or her family, his or her doctors.

The important thing to realize, of course, is there may not be any active treatment, but there is always active help. And that help can come from your doctor, your friends, your family. All of that is about preserving the quality of the life that you have. It doesn't mean searching, necessarily, for some magic treatment that somehow has been overlooked. It's a time of great stress, but I've always been amazed at the strength that the patient provides to his or her family and friends.
