How Nurses Can Help Sarcoma Patients

Nurse Denise Reinke: So as nurses approach a patient with sarcoma verses other cancers, they really need to better understand carcinoma verses sarcoma. And [sarcoma] isn't a common cancer, and that is really an important aspect, because good information, access to accurate information is not always as easy as with some of the common cancers. And so a nurse can be very helpful in pointing patients in the right direction to find good and appropriate information and also help them to connect with other people who have walked a similar path, have a similar diagnosis. Helping make those connections can be a little tougher than in the common cancers. So being able to, when appropriate, connect people so that they can, one-on-one, speak with someone else can be helpful.
